Ivan Valerio, a Middlebury College Student Found Dead at Middlebury Campus Florida

A statement on the Middlebury College’s campus website stated that the student, identified as 19-year-old Ivan Valerio from Florida, was discovered outside of Gifford Hall on Tuesday morning, October 7, 2023.

The initial police investigation did not find any evidence of wrongdoing. The Police did not mention the cause of the student’s death, but they did say that there was no danger to the community. Officials believe the student passed away during the night.

The Middlebury Police Department is working with Public Safety to investigate the circumstances surrounding the student’s death. The school has assured that there is no threat to the campus community. The first investigation did not find any evidence of foul play.

Valerio’s body has been sent to the Burlington Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. This is the second student death this semester, following the earlier death of a student in their dorm room in September.
